If you’re used to traveling alone, you may be less than thrilled about the prospect of taking a trip with someone else for the first time. How will you ever pick a place where there are things that both of you like?
It all comes down to who your travel partner is, and what you like to do together. For example, it might be a trip with your best friend from college, a getaway with a significant other, or an all-out girls’ weekend.
Here are five destinations to consider for your first trip together with a travel partner.
No matter who you’re traveling with, it’s a safe bet that other person likes music of some sort. With that the case, spending some time in the Music City is a good option.
Nashville is a good music-centric destination because it can cater to any style of trip. For example, it’s a great spot for a weekend away with the gals or guys, but it can also be a nice romantic getaway for couples.
You’ll be hard pressed to find someone who has visited Nashville that will not give it a positive recommendation. If it doesn’t sound like your thing but you would still like to make music a focal point of your trip, other cities to consider include New Orleans and Austin.
There are many destinations to choose from if you’re looking for a beach vacation, but Cancun is among the most versatile.
First, it’s a great option for those who aren’t used to traveling outside of the U.S. The flight isn’t too long, you’ll be surrounded by a good amount of Americans, and just about everybody in Cancun speaks English.
Also, there’s something to do for everyone. If you want to do shopping, that’s not a problem. Neither is heading to a bar or club and partying it up for the night.
If your travel partner isn’t necessarily a best friend and also not a romantic partner, there are all kinds of cool archeological areas nearby to check out. And if you’re looking for a more romantic trip, that is certainly possible along the serene waters of Cancun.
If you and your travel partner like either golf or gambling, Patricia Island in Grove, Oklahoma, is a place you won’t want to miss.
Located in the northeast region of Oklahoma, Patricia Island offers a wide variety of all-inclusive golf and gambling packages available year round. It can also be very affordable, as little as $125 per night per person for an all-inclusive stay.
There are many other things to do in the area besides play golf and gamble, particularly if you like the outdoors. There is plenty of good fishing nearby, or you can do some bird watching if you prefer a more passive approach.
Twin Bridges State Park is roughly a half hour away if you’d like to camp for a night. Or you could do some rock climbing and mountain biking near the foothills of the Ozarks.
The first place you think of when you think about the state of New York is of course New York City. But an underrated area of the state that offers a wide variety of things do to is the Finger Lakes region in Central New York.
Just as the name indicates, there are many lakes in the area. This opens up the options for water activities, such as boat cruises, water skiing, and fishing. There are also many parks in the area where you can do some biking or hiking.
If you like to drink, you’re covered—the region is home to more than 100 wineries, breweries and distilleries.
Or, if you feel the need to visit a big city for a day, you can do that as well. The center of the Finger Lakes region is within 300 miles of Toronto, Philadelphia, and New York City.
Across North America there are a handful of destinations where bustling city life is nearby breathtaking scenes of nature. The city of Vancouver is one such location.
It’s another location where there is something for everyone, making it a good place to check out with a first-time travel partner. Want to do some hiking or climbing? No problem. Prefer to hit the beach? You’re covered. More into nightlife, music, and casinos? All of that is here as well.
Vancouver is also a nice hub if you’re interested in taking a day trip to other nearby locations. Another thing unique about Vancouver—between May and October it’s a good place to do some whale watching. How many other destinations can you say that about?
Again, selecting a destination to visit with a first-time travel partner will all depend on who that person is and what you like to do together. But considering one of the five places on this list will get you off to a good start.
